319. Man of Science

Teaser: In which the Captain challenges the Priest's claim to be a man of science, who is more than happy to provide evidence for the hypothesis.

CHURCH INTERIOR Priest, Captain, Ranger

[FRAME 1]

Captain: Back up, how can you be a man of science?! You're a priest!

Priest: I became a priest BECAUSE I'm a man of science.

[FRAME 2]

Captain: That doesn't really clear things up either.

Priest: I'm happy to explain. We all agree the gods exist, yes?

Captain: Obviously.

[FRAME 3]

Priest: And we've all witnessed their power, too. Resurrection, healing, purification of poison, all demonstrable and repeatable effects, of which the gods are the only logical cause.

Captain: I guess I follow.

[FRAME 4]

Priest: Given that, what was an ambitious young philosopher to study? A pathetic field like metallurgy, endlessly experimenting to find the right proportions of the six metals that will yield a slightly sharper sword?

Priest: Or theology, where the right combination of words and gestures can imbue that sword with the power to cut ghosts!
